OpenAI launching research preview of Codex, a cloud-based software engineering agent
- OpenAI rolling out Codex to ChatGPT Pro, Enterprise, and Team users Friday, with support for Plus and EDU coming soon
- Says users can access Codex via sidebar in ChatGPT and assign it coding tasks by typing a prompt and clicking “Code”
- Says users can check Codex’s work through citations, terminal logs, and test results
- Says Codex access to be available at no additional cost for coming weeks
- Says after no-cost Codex access ends, rate-limited access and flexible pricing options will be rolled out
- Says for developers using Codex-mini-latest, Codex model priced at USD 1.50 per 1mln input tokens and USD 6.00 per 1mln output tokens
- Also releasing smaller version of Codex-1, a version of O4-mini designed for use in Codex CLI
