
Japan scraps US meeting after Washington demands more defence spending, FT reports
- US secretary of state Rubio and Defence Secretary Hegseth were due to meet Japan’s defence minister Nakatani and foreign minister Iwaya in Washington on July 1st.
- But Tokyo scrapped the meeting after the US asked Japan to boost defence spending to 3.5%, higher than its earlier request of 3%, according to FT sources.
