Fed Chair - US President Trump nominated former Fed Governor Kevin Warsh as Fed Chair. "I have known Kevin for a long period of time, and have no doubt that he will go down as one of the GREAT Fed Chairmen, maybe the best. On top of everything else, he is “central casting,” and he will never let you down"; said Christopher Waller, Rick Rieder, and others were interviewed for the Fed position, adding that all would have been outstanding and have a great and unlimited future with “Trump.” -
Government Shutdown - President Trump said Senate Republicans and Democrats agreed to advance five spending bills funding most government agencies until 30th September, while removing DHS funding from a USD 1.2tln package. DHS funding will be extended for two weeks as talks continue amid protests and scrutiny of immigration enforcement. -
Trump vs Treasury/IRS - President Trump sued the US Treasury and IRS for at least USD 10bln over an alleged unauthorised disclosure of his tax returns during his first term. The lawsuit was filed in Miami by Trump, his sons Donald Jr. and Eric, and the Trump Organisation.

Apple (AAPL) - Apple shares ended the extended US trading session around flat, having initially rose after profit and revenue beat expectations, driven by exceptionally strong demand for the latest iPhone models that delivered the company’s best iPhone sales growth in over four years. Apple also announced that it had acquired Israeli audio AI startup Q.ai; terms were undisclosed, but reports suggest the deal valued Q.ai at about USD 1.6bln. Q1 EPS 2026 (USD): EPS 2.84 (exp. 2.67), Revenue 143.8bln (exp. 138.36bln); iPhone net sales 85.27bln (exp. 78.65bln), Wearables, Home and Accessories net sales 11.49bln (exp. 12.04bln), iPad net sales 8.60bln (exp. 8.13bln), Mac net sales 8.39bln (exp. 8.95bln). Greater China net sales 25.53bln (exp. 21.32bln), and services net sales 30.01bln (exp. 30.07bln). Installed base reached a new record of over 2.5bln active devices, with TV viewership +36% Y/Y in December; declared a quarterly dividend of USD 0.26/shr. NVIDIA (NVDA) - China has conditionally approved AI startup DeepSeek to buy NVIDIA H200 chips, with regulatory conditions still being finalised, sources cited by Reuters said. Authorities also approved purchases by ByteDance, Alibaba (BABA) and Tencent (TCEHY). The decision follows recent US clearance for H200 exports, though Chinese regulators retain final control. -
Microsoft (MSFT), Perplexity - AI startup Perplexity signed a USD 750mln, 3yr cloud deal with Microsoft to use Azure, expanding beyond longtime partner Amazon (AMZN). The agreement allows Perplexity to deploy AI models via Microsoft’s Foundry service, including models from OpenAI, Anthropic and xAI. Separately, The Verge reports that Microsoft is prioritising fixes to core Windows 11 issues after bugs, ads and bloatware damaged user trust; Windows and Devices president Davuluri said the company will focus on improving performance, reliability and overall user experience based on customer feedback. -
SanDisk (SNDK) - SanDisk shares jumped over in extended trading after it delivered a large earnings beat and raised guidance, citing exceptionally strong demand for memory and storage products from AI customers. Q2 EPS 6.20 (exp. 3.54), Q2 revenue USD 3.03bln (exp. 2.69bln). Performance benefited from better product mix, accelerating enterprise SSD deployments and strengthening demand, with management citing improved market dynamics and the growing role of its products in AI infrastructure. The CEO said results highlight agility in capitalising on mix and demand and noted a structural reset to better align supply with sustained demand. For Q3, sees EPS between 12.00-14.00 (exp. 4.33), and revenue at 4.4-4.8bln (exp. 2.91bln). Robinhood (HOOD) - The US government is considering giving Robinhood a key role overseeing new “Trump accounts” for millions of children, Bloomberg reports. Amazon (AMZN) - Amazon is in talks to invest up to USD 50bln in OpenAI, led by CEO Andy Jassy, according to the WSJ. OpenAI is seeking up to USD 100bln in new capital, potentially valuing the ChatGPT maker at as much as USD 830bln, the Journal adds. -
Tesla (TSLA) - SpaceX is considering a potential merger with Tesla, or alternatively with AI firm xAI, according to sources cited by Bloomberg, as Elon Musk weighs consolidating his businesses. Talks include a SpaceX-Tesla tie-up pushed by some investors, and a SpaceX–xAI combination ahead of an IPO, the report said. Separately, Electrek reports that NHTSA crash data and Tesla mileage disclosures show Tesla Robotaxis crash more frequently than human drivers; the fleet records about one crash every 55,000 miles, vs around one police-reported crash every 500,000 miles for human drivers in the US. -
Ford (F) - Ford expects a pre-tax remeasurement loss of about USD 0.6bln in Q4, including USD 300mln from US pension plans and USD 300mln outside the US. -

Just Eat (JTKWY) - Grubhub will remove delivery and service fees on restaurant orders above USD 50 as it seeks to attract customers from DoorDash (DASH) and Uber (UBER). The CEO said, "Our transformation is delivering a more resilient, lower-cost, technology-led business with structurally stronger earnings power, grounded in advantaged assets, disciplined capital allocation, and execution excellence. Production: Reported that highest annual Upstream production in more than 40yrs, and record refinery throughput. FY net production reached its highest level in more than 40 years at 4.7mln oil-equivalent barrels per day. Production from the Permian, at 1.6mln oil-equivalent barrels per day, and Guyana, which exceeded 700,000 gross barrels per day, achieved annual records. Advantaged assets in the Permian, Guyana, and LNG represented 59% of production in 2025, an increase of approximately 7ppts vs 2024. Q4 net production reached 5.0mln oil-equivalent barrels per day, with advantaged assets setting new quarterly production records, including 1.8mln oil-equivalent barrels per day in the Permian and Guyana approaching 875,000 gross barrels per day. Meanwhile, cash capital expenditures totaled 29.0bln in 2025, including 2.6bln of acquisitions; 28.4bln was for additions to property, plant, and equipment. Expects cash capital expenditures of 27-29bln in 2026. -
Chevron Corporation (CVX) Q4 2025 (USD): EPS 1.52 (exp. 1.43), Revenue 46.9bln (exp. 46.88bln); hiked quarterly dividend +4% to 1.78/shr; Increased 2025 worldwide and US production by 12% and 16% percent to record levels; Reserve replacement ratio of 158% in 2025. As developments progress in Venezuela, Chevron continues to engage with the US and Venezuelan governments to advance shared energy goals. Marathon Petroleum (MPC) - The United Steelworkers union said it has unanimously rejected Marathon’s contract proposal in talks over a national agreement covering US refinery and chemical plant workers. The parties face a 12:01 a.m. Sunday deadline to reach a new deal is before the current four-year contract expires. -
Venezuela - The Trump administration eased sanctions by lifting a key barrier for US firms to trade Venezuelan oil after the government in Caracas passed legislation to improve conditions for foreign investors, WaPo reports. -
China LNG - China’s LNG imports are expected to rise in January for a third consecutive month, reaching about 6.94mln tons, according to Kpler. The volume would be around +15% Y/Y, suggesting stronger purchases via long-term contracts.

Eastman Chemical (EMN) Q4 2025 (USD): EPS 0.75 (exp. 0.72), Revenue 1.97bln (exp. 2.02bln). Sees Q1 adj. Rare Earths - The US plans to seek agreement with allies on a rare earth pricing mechanism during meetings with foreign ministers in Washington next week. Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Helberg said the aim is to support price stability for mineral refiners and extractors. -
US-China - The US Treasury said China’s yuan is “substantially undervalued” and urged Beijing to allow the exchange rate to strengthen in a timely and orderly way. In its semi-annual FX report, the department cited China’s large and growing external surpluses and said adjustments should align with macroeconomic fundamentals. -
UK-China/Canada-China - President Trump warned the UK and Canada against pursuing new business deals with China after their leaders visited Beijing this month. He said such moves were dangerous, criticised Canada’s economic position, and argued China should not be seen as a solution. Elsewhere, Trump threatened to impose a 50% tariff on Canadian aircraft sold in the US and decertify new planes made in Canada unless Ottawa approved certain Gulfstream jets; he accused Canada of refusing to certify several Gulfstream models, targeting Bombardier aircraft in response. -
US-South Korea - South Korea’s industry minister met the US Commerce Secretary in Washington, but made no progress easing renewed trade tensions after President Trump threatened higher tariffs. The sides agreed to resume talks on Friday, with Seoul reaffirming commitments on agreed investment pledges and related legislation to support Korean investment in the US. -
US-Cuba - President Trump authorised his administration to impose tariffs on goods from countries that supply oil to Cuba, escalating pressure on the communist-run government. The move tightens US sanctions policy as Trump seeks political change in Havana.
