US stocks were dragged down in afternoon trade after it emerged that Senate would delay the vote on Health Care until after the 4 July recess, and traders once again began to fear that delayed health care legislation would mean delayed tax reform. As such, health care stocks notably took a turn for the worse on the headlines, though were still performing better than the ‘defensive’ sectors like Telecoms (hit by news that Sprint S is in talks with Comcast CMCSA and Charter CHTR to offer wireless services, weighing on T-Mobile TMUS). Elsewhere, financials outperformed, tracking Treasury yields higher and the energy sector was up on the day tracking crude prices higher. Finally, S&P 500 -0.80% at 2,419.56, DJIA -0.45% at 21,314.54, Nasdaq-100 -1.83% at 5,671.60.
Best Performing Sectors in the S&P 500: Financials -0.54%, Energy -0.16%, Materials -0.64%
Worst Performing Sectors in the S&P 500: IT -1.66%, Telecoms -1.42%, Utilities -1.23%
