China has told Evergrande to avoid a near-term USD bond default

- Evergrande is today required to make an interest payment on its offshore (USD denominated) bonds, in the event a payment is not made Evergrande has a 30-day 'grace' period as part of existing agreements before it will be classed as defaulting on the bond
- The payment in question is a USD 83.5mln coupon due Thursday on USD bonds; thus far, the company has not said whether it expects to make this payment or not but it did announce it will make the interest payment on an onshore (~USD 36mln equivalent) bond earlier in the week
